Roofs of Dubrovnik: The Lost Dimension. A Comparison of the Historic and Recent Roof Tiles Kanalica. 

This research deals with historic and historicising roof tiles named Kanalica of Dubrovnik (UNESCO World Heritage protection since 1979). A comparison of the historic tiles with recent tiles used after the war of the 90ies is presented through scientific analyses. All examinations focus on the material composition and the surface properties.The aim of the research is to improve awareness and sensitise the public and conservation institutions for differences between the historic and recent tiles in Dubrovnik. Research results might also encourage communities to develop further strategies for the protection of historic roof tiles as an important part of cultural heritage, as well as contribute the regulation of tile substitution in historical ensembles. Based on the results of this research, the production of the roof tile, which are more accurate in detail is aimed for.

Kristina Kojan Goluža was born in Dubrovnik, Croatia in 1979. She graduated and made her MFA degree at University of Art and industrial design Linz in Austria. At Academy of fine arts in Zagreb (Croatia) she made her PhD. During her studies she participated at several symposiums and workshops abroad. An important part of her education were professional training in conservation programs in Florence, Vienna and Mainz. She studied afterwords on University of Applied Sciencies (HTW) in Berlin on Department for conservation and restoration. Since 2006 she is employed at Department of Arts and Restoration as an assistant lecturer, University of Dubrovnik in a field of ceramic history and tehnology and conservation and restoration of ceramic artifacts.
She lives in Cavtat.
